Ingredients

  • 60g coffee beans (coarse grind)
  • 900ml hot water (200°F/93°C)

Equipment

  • French press (32oz/1L)
  • Coffee grinder
  • Timer
  • Digital scale

Instructions

1

Preheat & Prep

Rinse your French press with hot water to preheat it, then discard the water. Add 60g of coarse ground coffee to the empty French press.

2

Bloom the Coffee

Pour just enough hot water (about 100ml) to saturate the grounds. Stir gently and let the coffee bloom for 30 seconds.

3

Add Remaining Water

Pour the remaining 800ml of hot water in a slow, circular motion. Fill the French press almost to the top, leaving room for the plunger.

4

Steep for 4 Minutes

Place the lid on the French press with the plunger pulled all the way up. Set a timer and let the coffee steep for exactly 4 minutes.

5

Press & Serve Immediately

Slowly and steadily press the plunger down with gentle, even pressure. Pour the coffee immediately to prevent over-extraction. Enjoy your perfect French press coffee!

Pro Tips

Grind Size Matters

Use a coarse grind similar to breadcrumbs. Fine grinds will pass through the filter and create muddy coffee.

Perfect Timing

4 minutes is the sweet spot. Less time = under-extracted, more time = over-extracted and bitter.

Press Technique

Press slowly and steadily. If there's too much resistance, your grind might be too fine.

Serve Immediately

Don't let coffee sit in the French press after pressing. Transfer to a thermal carafe to maintain quality.
